This past Sunday, we headed into the city to attend the Hardly, Strictly Bluegrass Festival at Golden Gate Park (aka the place where two mangoes got hitched). We didn't actually see any bluegrass, though we did catch the Indigo Girls and Rosanna Cash (Johnny's daughter). This was Nikhil's first big concert, and wowzas, it was a little insane. 80,000 people, the majority of them hippies, and lots of friends to be made.
Pictured above, Nikhil and I on the bus. Some strategic parking + public transportation saved us from arriving at the park very harried (or not at all, as we heard of friends who couldn't find parking and gave up and went home).
The three mangoes enjoying the Indigo Girls. I saw them many times back in my high school days but it'd been, gulp, 13 or 14 years since I'd really listened to them.
Many people got to the park way early and used tarps to save themselves huge swaths of grass, which is not really tenable at such a well-attended event. We asked if we could hang out in a small corner of a family's space, and the mother grudgingly obliged after a little smooth talking on Alvaro's part. Of course, she didn't know just who she was letting join her. Her daughters were totally enamored with Nikhil and spent the entire show entertaining him! Shortly after, we met up with some friends and Nikhil very randomly got his first bee sting (on his tricep?!). He took it like a man.
