Apparently when a child is 5 months and 6 days old in my parent's part of India, they have an annam prasadam (rice sweet). This date happened to coincide with our trip to Kentucky, so Nikhil had a fun little ceremony. Here's the idea: the baby is presented with a number of items and what he chooses is supposedly predictive of his life's path. Above you can see the options: a pen, a book, money, some gold, and a toy.
Getting a little closer...
Flirting with money...
...before gripping the red pen! What does it mean? He'll be a scholar? A writer? Or as Alvaro suggested, he'll be able to write his name on his money.
Examining the rice sweet, which he did not eat, because he wasn't ready for solids yet (and I am very stubborn and determined that rice with sugar and cow's milk would not be his first food! Consequently, he has still not started solids.).
